‘Brought Tears to My Eyes’ – Will Smith Details the Exact Moment He Met Venus and Serena Williams Actors for King Richard

Will Smith gave one of his best performances in the movie “King Richard”. The American actor played the role of Richard Williams, the father of Venus and Serena Williams. The film was brilliantly received by audiences and critics, and has been nominated in six different categories at the Academy Awards. 

Apart from Smith, other members of the cast also did exceptional work in the movie. Saniyya Sidney and Demi Singleton, the young stars, played the role of Venus and Serena to perfection. Will even got a little teary after seeing the two young actresses.

Will Smith got emotional on the set of King Richard

One of the greatest American actors, Will Smith, has played many roles previously with perfection throughout his career. However, playing Richard Williams was probably one of his biggest challenges ever. 

“Demi and Saniyya, they were cast separately, and then, I remember the first day I saw them walk in together, and it brought tears to my eyes,” Smith said. 

The two actresses, Demi Singleton and Saniyya Sidney, talked about their chemistry off the screen as well as on the screen. “Me and Saniyya are, you know, we are super close. We call each other sisters,” Demi (portraying Serena) said.

“We feel such like a family on set, that once we keep going with one another, it just looks like every other day, it looks like a real family, it looks like the Williams family,” Saniyya (who’s playing Venus) added. 

The film was significant for the Williams Sisters

Serena Williams and Venus Williams are the two trailblazers of tennis not only in America but also all over the world. It was truly inspiring seeing them going through all the struggles with their father and mother. Smith also felt the emotion of the movie and what it represented.

“The story of Richard and the story of this family is a big part of the American dream. There’s very few places on earth where venus and Serena could happen. It’s just such a powerful story of belief and love and family, it was beautiful,” Smith said.
