The sports drama movie, ‘King Richard’ was one of the best movies in 2021. It gained the praises of many Film Critics. Especially Will Smith playing the father of Venus and Serena Williams caught many eyes. In a recent making video of the film, Will Smith revealed some interesting facts about playing the role of Richard Williams. 

The film illustrated a genuine authenticity while portraying the lives of Serena, Venus, and Richard Williams. Deservedly, the movie received six Oscar nominations including Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Film Editing, and Best Original Song. 

Will Smith took inspiration from real life to play the role of Richard Williams

King Richard has been in the limelight for various reasons. Tremendous acting is one of the reasons, as Will Smith brought his absolute best to portray Richard’s character. The actor revealed that he used his relationship with his real-life daughter, Willow Smith, to connect with young Venus and Serena. 

“There’s something very different in a father-daughter connection and I could use my relationship with Willow and her career to really find that space that Richard found with Venus and Serena,” Smith talked about playing the father of Venus and Serena.

Isha Price, the sister of Venus and Serena and the executive producer of the film, brought some factual authenticity to the film. She also praised Will Smith for his outstanding performance in the film. 

“Will has such a great amount of integrity. He’s such a well-rounded caring charismatic good individual. So, we knew that the integrity that he shows in all this other work, he would also carry toward us too,” Isha said about Smith.

Can King Richard win an Oscar?

It’s pretty certain that out of six nominations, King Richard will at least one Oscar. It will surprise many if they don’t win any awards at the Oscars. Apart from Will’s terrific performance, Aunjanue Ellis also was outstanding in the movie.

Ellis played the role of Oracene Price to perfection. Interestingly, many people thought that this was as much a story about Oracene Price as about Richard Williams. As a result of her performance, Ellis has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress.
