American actor Will Smith is truly one of the best actors of this generation. He played many roles in many movies, but his role as Richard Williams, the father of Venus and Serena Williams, in the ‘King Richard’ movie will always remain in the hearts of many fans. The sports drama movie has created a massive roar, over the last few months. And maybe a potential Oscar-winning movie, as it received six nominations. 

After receiving tons of praise from the critics and fans, Will Smith has received an Oscar nomination for the Best Actor in a leading role category. Before the Oscar ceremony, Will Smith grabbed the best actor’s award at the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG). At that event, the actor talked about some similarities between Richard Williams and his father.

Portraying a character like Richard Williams was not an easy task, but Will Smith did it with perfection. In the SAG Awards, when a reporter asked Smith about who was his Richard Williams in real life, the actor said his father’s name, Willard Carroll Smith, Sr.

“You know what, my father was very very similar to Richard Williams, you know… My father was military, so it was a little bit more… little bit more push to it, you know, and fathers and sons have a little bit of a different vibe but I could… connect to some of the perspectives of Richard Williams having a dream for his family and not being able to find support in the World, my father had a very similar mentality,” Smith stated. 

The Williams Sisters expressed their joy over the success of King Richard

Unquestionably, the main character of the movie was Richard Williams. However, it was also an origin story of Venus and Serena Williams. Initially, the Williams sisters had to face a lot of diversity and their father provided that support, even though the World didn’t. Will’s performance was so powerful, even the Williams Sisters could not stop themselves from praising the actor.

Both Serena and Venus announced their joy on social media after their film received six Oscar nominations. Venus also attended the SAG awards with Will Smith and the whole cast. Evidently, the Williams family and the casts of King Richard are eagerly waiting for the Oscars. On 27th March, they could potentially grab plenty of accolades.
