Karolina Pliskova is the former World No. 1 on the WTA tour, who has been performing exceptionally well since 2021. And she has managed to sustain her form for a while. However, her 2022 season had not been up to the expectation up until her match at Charleston Open. And she was forced to pull out of the Australian Open and others as well; the Indian Wells and the Miami Open, due to injury.

However, she seems to have recovered from the injury and is back on the tour. Currently ranked 8th in the world, Pliskova is now taking part in the Charleston Open, which marks the start of the clay swing.

She was also seen doing some fan service at the event, and one ‘fan’ that went to get her card signed was Bethanie Mattek-Sands. Mattek Sands is a player herself, hailing from the USA. She is the former World No. 1 in doubles and has nine Grand Slam titles, and an Olympic gold medal. She has also represented the USA in several events!

The WTA’s official Instagram account also shared a snippet of this adorable exchange.

Coming back on tour after a prolonged time out of the tour; Karolina Pliskova had a tough first match at the tournament. Her first-round match was against Katarina Zavatska, from Ukraine, was intense, to say the least. She was tested to her limits regarding her skills and abilities on the court, to reach the next round of the tour after a lengthy battle. Pliskova was down a set and a break in the second one before fighting back to win the match 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 in two hours and 48 minutes on court.

“It was a great fight. She played really well,” Pliskova said after her match. “I’m just really happy to be back here,” she added. This marks her 350th win in the WTA tour. And that includes 64 wins on clay, 241 on hard courts, and 43 on grass.
