Eva Lys reveals the terrible incidents with her friends and family
The Ukraine-born World Number 311 talked about the horrific experiences involving her friends and family in the affected regions. She said, “I want to get one thing straight: it’s awful and I’m not going to sugarcoat it. It’s terrible. For example, I have a picture of a friend of my mother sleeping in the subway with her little daughter. When we talk on the phone, the bombs can be heard through the phone. Humans are helpless in the face of attacks, but they are incredibly brave.”

Recently, Eva Lys was in Kazakhstan to participate in the Nur-Sultan ITF tournament. She had a decent run in the tournament, beating two higher-ranked opponents en route to the quarterfinals. However, in the last-eight clash, she lost to the eighth-seed Anastasia Zakharova in a hard-fought match.
Asked about her wearing Ukraine’s national colors in the first round clash at the tournament, she said, “It was a very proud feeling. I drove through the city with my mother to find something yellow. I already had something blue with me. But it was very important to me to set an example here. I am of the opinion that the war in Ukraine should not be left uncommented and that as an athlete you have to use your reach.”
