Subsequently, the action shifted to the Davis Cup and the Laver Cup where some of the top tennis stars are playing. Meanwhile, on the women’s front, a big event is currently underway in Mexico. However, the WTA 1000 event there has drawn unusual attention on social media involving Greek tennis star, Maria Sakkari.

Sakkari is the second seed in that WTA 1000 event in Guadalajara. She was involved in an unfortunate incident after her big win moments ago. Here’s what exactly happened during her match.

After her semifinal win over Caroline Garcia, the Greek tennis star celebrated her win on the court. During the celebrations, she was dishing out tennis falls to the fans by hitting them into the crowd. However, on one occasion, she accidentally hit the ball a little too hard and, as a result, it flew out of the stadium. Sakkari had a wry smile after coming to know that the ball went out of the stadium. Similarly, some fans burst into laughter after coming to terms with the situation.

Sakkari considered taking a break from tennis

The former US Open semifinalist lost in the first round of the year’s final Grand Slam tournament in New York this year. Moments after shock defeat, she made a big revelation about her future.

“The previous two defeats definitely played a part. I was very nervous. I don’t know what I’m going to do, I really don’t know. Maybe I should take a break, I’m suffering on the court. But I can’t make a decision now, my mind isn’t clear,” Sakkari said in a post-match interview.

The Greek tennis star will look to get this behind her as she steps onto the court in a bid to win her first title this season. She’ll take on American star, Caroline Dolehide in the summit clash of the WTA 1000 tournament in Guadalajara.
