Eugenie Bouchard stayed on the sidelines for over a year and made a comeback in a Vancouver-based tournament. Because of her shoulder injury and subsequent surgery, she could only participate in the last Grand Slam of this season, the US Open. However, there she failed to make it past the qualifiers.

The Canadian tennis ace is currently struggling with her form and the recent injury is only going to make it worse. She incurred a hip injury in the ongoing Winners Open and her run in the WTA tour has come to a halt once again.

Eugenie Bouchard opens up about her injury

A couple of days ago, the 2014 Wimbledon Championships runner-up claimed she was playing pain-free. However, the unfortunate injury that originated as a harmless tweak has ruined her plans. An overwhelmed Bouchard, speaking about the same, admitted,I am just disappointed to have ended my tournament in Romania this way because I really loved being here in Cluj.”

Thereafter, she explained, “I pulled my hip flexor a few days ago in practice. I tried everything to be ready for this match. I got an MRI yesterday and didn’t show anything too bad, so I thought I could play.”

Bouchard showed up at Centre Court on Tuesday with her knee heavily wrapped and after the first set, which she lost 3-6 against the Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina, she realized that a walkover would be the only safe option to avoid further aggravating the injury. “I absolutely hate retiring. I wish I could’ve done better here. But I hope to be back,” she concluded.

Boucard’s performance this season

The 28-year-old post her qualifiers defeat in the US Open, signed up for the Chennai Open. In the WTA 250 event, securing straight-set victories, she made it to the quarterfinals. However, in the quest for a seat in the semifinals against the Argentine professional Nadia Podoroska, she incurred a 6-1 4-6 2-6 loss.

Following that, Bouchard signed up for the Korea Open. However, it was a disappointing outing for the former world no.5 as she suffered an opening round exit. Germany’s Tatjana Maria got the better of her in straight sets and post that Belinda Bencic knocked her out of the Ostrava Open in the round of 32.
