American tennis star Venus Williams is among the greatest tennis players ever. Over the years, Venus and her sister Serena Williams dominated the WTA tour. The American is around for a long time and as fans, we have seen her change a lot. While the Williams sister are quite fun now, earlier they meant only business.

Even their on-court and post-match interviews used to be direct and on point. One such instance was when Venus gave a classic on-court interview after defeating Martina Hingis in the US Open 2000.

Fans react as an old video of Venus Williams resurfaced on the Internet

After defeating Swiss tennis star Martina Hingis in the US Open semifinal, Venus Williams was straight to the point in her interview. The American was harsh on herself and admitted that her mistakes cost her points. However, it also made it look like Martina was not good enough and won points because Venus committed mistakes.

“She was winning points because I was making mistakes. I was thinking about how I would give her two, three, four points easily. I mean, I shouldn’t be giving things away for free. It’s like giving away free money,” Venus said.

As the video resurfaced on Twitter, here’s how fans reacted to it.

Fans got nostalgic after watching the video. Many of them were happy with the badass reply Venus gave. It also shows how she was still ready for the challenge next time. Also, the American in a way suggested that her competition is with herself. All she needs to do is play her best without making errors and the opponent whosoever it is doesn’t matter.

What made it more interesting was the fact that Martina Hingis was world number one at that point. Venus was in a great form throughout the tournament. Later, she defeated Lindsay Davenport in straight sets to clinch the title. It was the first US Open title for Venus and the second Grand Slam title of her career. Venus is currently out of the WTA tour. Her fans are eagerly waiting for her comeback announcement.

However, a few things suggest that the legend might consider retirement as well. Recently, she spoke about the alternate career option she would like to explore after giving up tennis.
