Simona Halep once spoke about Eugenie Bouchard
In 2017, Simona Halep defeated Roberta Vinci in the second round of the Madrid Open. During her post-match press conference, the interviewer asked her about her relationship with Eugenie Bouchard, to which she said, “I didn’t wish good luck to Bouchard because we don’t speak, actually.”
She concluded by saying, “She’s different, I can say. I cannot judge her for being this. I cannot admire her for being this, and I have nothing to say about her person.” Prior to Simona Halep’s victory, Eugenie Bouchard defeated former world no.1, Maria Sharapova, in the second round of the Madrid Open 2017. However, Bouchard thought it was unfair when five-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova returned from a doping suspension in April 2017 and immediately dubbed her as a cheater.
