‘I Cried After..’ – Emotional WTA Star Reveals Coaching Heart-Break as Naomi Osaka’s Tennis Comeback Affects Her in More Ways Than One

That is why when Zheng Qinwen’s coach Wim Fissette parted ways with her to go back to Naomi Osaka, the Chinese star was shattered.

Not only it was a breach of contract, but it also affected her a lot emotionally, especially with important tournaments coming up. She recently opened up about how she felt when she got to know about his decision during an interview.

The Chinese No. 1 revealed the news to the reporters at a press conference about how her coach had breached the contract and parted ways with her. And all because of Naomi Osaka. Not only that, she also shared how this news impacted her and how it made her feel.

She said, “During the US Open I knew he had contact with the team of Osaka. I cried after hearing his decision. I understand that Osaka can provide a better offer, and he has a family to support. I understand his decision, but it doesn’t mean I will forgive him.”

Zheng’s outburst might find its fair share of sympathizers in the tennis world as her coach, who was on contract, left the player hanging high and dry amidst important tournaments.

And all that for a player who had previously parted ways with him. Yes, that’s right. Naomi has worked with Fissette before and had ended their professional relationship!

Why did Naomi turn away from Fissette in the first place?

Osaka and Fissette started working before the 2020 season. Under his guidance, she won 2 major titles, which included the Australia Open in 2021 and US Open in 2020. However, right before Wimbledon, when the Japanese star faced some injuries, she parted ways with the coach.

Her reason for parting ways with her coach was that she felt that she needed a different energy, which she was not getting from Fissette. She also added that she wanted to give her body some rest because of her injury, but since Wim is a very ambitious person, he might have wanted to go to Wimbledon.
