The Rom-com sports movie titled, ‘Wimbledon’ turned out to be a great entertainer for both general audiences and tennis enthusiasts, when it was released in 2004. While portraying various subtleties of the grass-court major event, it also depicted the love story of two ambitious players striving for success in the sport.

Back then, the film also caught the attention of many prominent figures in the tennis community. The list also includes the 7 singles Grand Slam champion, Venus Williams who expressed her views on the tennis movie while calling it quite ‘unrealistic’.

Venus Williams once became a critic for a film starring Kirsten Dunst and Paul Bettany

Even though many among the audience found the sports movie Wimbledon quite inspirational, the American tennis legend, Venus Williams had some contradicting views. In an old interview, the former world No. 1  player brought to light the concept of portraying women in tennis movies as she asserted that they could not play well but worked hard.

The 43-year-old player further expressed her bafflement at the idea of the female protagonist taking a few days off, to go fall in love. While Venus also claimed that she never got to take any such breaks during the Grand Slam event in London. She said, “I watched that movie, Wimbledon or something, the girl takes two days off to go fall in love, I’m thinking, ‘I didn’t take a day off at Wimbledon.’ I don’t want to fall in love, 6-0 works for me. “

The rom-com sports movie portrayed the journey of an out-of-form tennis player, Peter Colt (Paul Bettany) falling in love with an ambitious young player on the women’s circuit, Lizzie Bradbury (Kirsten Dunst). Ever since meeting Lizzie, he manages to overcome various challenges in order to rediscover his form during his participation at the grass-court major tournament, the Wimbledon Championships.

Venus also became a critic for a popular American Crime Drama

In an old interview, the former world No. 1  player opened up about watching some dark TV series like the American crime drama, Dexter. Speaking of it, Venus emphasized the violence and gore there in the series which can often break the heart of the audience including her. Later, she also labeled the heinous crimes committed by the protagonist of the show as  “morally bad.”
