Martina Navratilova and a number of other elite tennis stars have faced a major loss recently. The legendary players are a few of the most active athletes on social media. More specifically, Twitter. However, following Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter, these players have suffered a drop in their Twitter followers. Even though not many of these players have come out vocalizing their thoughts on the matter, Navratilova has taken the first step to do it.

Martina Navratilova on players losing Twitter followers
After a tsunami of ups and downs, Elon Musk finally bought the social media giant Twitter in a massive $44 billion deal. The deal came in after rounds of talks between Musk and Twitter’s previous top management. During his acquisition statement, Musk asserted that he wants to make Twitter better than ever. He has also promised to make Twitter the most useful social media platform.
However, since Musk’s acquisition, many Twitter handles have started losing their followers. The reason for this loss remains unknown. However, a concerning state for the tennis community is that a major part of these Twitter handles is tennis athletes. In a recently released list updated yesterday, Serena tops the list with a loss of 3,694 followers. She is followed by Martina Navratilova with a loss of 1,656 followers.
Apart from these two, other prominent names on the lists are Naomi Osaka, Andy Murray, Roger Federer, Maria Sharapova, etc.

The reason for this downfall remains unknown for now. Furthermore, the majority of the players haven’t come out expressing their thoughts on the matter till now. However, that isn’t the case with Navratilova. Known for her fearless attitude, Martina Navratilova has taken the first step to come out and take a stand.
Learning about the loss, Navratilova took no in replying to the tweet. Coming out in support of the players, Navratilova put up a one-liner yet strong tweet. The tweet read, “And I don’t blame them.”

The gracious career of Navratilova
Martina Navratilova is arguably one of the greatest players of all time. Turning pro in 1974, she climbed the ladder of success in the most rapid way. Winning the 1978 women’s singles Wimbledon, she rose to the top of the rankings for the first time in her career. With every year passing, the legendary player went on improving her record.
