7-time Grand Slam winner Venus Williams is no doubt one of the legends of this game. As a professional tennis player, her achievements speak for themselves. Apart from playing tennis, she’s also an entrepreneur and an advocate for equal pay in women’s sports. Her inspiration is, of course, the great American, Billie Jean King, as she spoke about her in a recent podcast with Julie Foudy. 

Venus Williams speaks about her first meeting with Billie Jean King

In the Laughter Permitted with Julie Foudy podcast, former World No.1, Venus Williams spoke about her first-ever meeting with the legend Billie Jean King. According to Venus, she met Billie Jean when she was probably eight years old. She also said that she wanted to show Billie how great she was. However, she wasn’t sure if Billie still remembers their first-ever meeting.

“When I first met Billie Jean, I was somewhere between 6 and 8 years old, or 8 maybe, and she was doing a clinic for ‘World Team Tennis’. I was so excited. I went out there. I thought I would really show her just how great I was. I don’t know if she remembers me or not, but it was so exciting. I just wanted to show her how fast I was and how big I can hit. I probably wasn’t doing much, but I felt like it. That was really cool to like see her… I just remember me being there, I’m sure Serena was there too. And she’s done quite well for herself,” Venus revealed.

The 7-time Grand Slam champion also talked about the time she played with Billie Jean and she often speaks in her voice. “I played Fed Cup with her, which is like Davis cup… We would just be playing and hitting the ball, drilling, and next thing you know from the back of the corner, she goes ‘I love this game!!’ (laughs)… Yeah, so, I’ve definitely gotten that voice and she is awesome,” Venus further stated. 

Venus is enjoying the success of ‘King Richard’

The story of the movie ‘King Richard’ was is about Venus and Serena’s father. Both the Williams Sisters have expressed their joy and love over the film’s success. Recently, they both appeared in the Critics Choice Awards 2022 and praised all the actors involved in the movie.

Meanwhile, fans are still awaiting the return of  Williams Sisters on the tour. While Venus hasn’t played since last August, Serena has been missing in action since June last year. Earlier, Venus gave a hint about her comeback and she might be back on the courts pretty soon. However, we are still unsure about Serena’s comeback.
