An incident that perfectly portrayed the blend of both his natures happened at the Wimbledon Championships. The time when he tested the potential and standing of Serena’s coach, Patrick Mouratoglou. Here’s the story that joins the dots.

Patrick Mouratoglou’s banter with Richard

While in an interview in 2015, the French tennis coach, spoke about his new partner’s father’s reaction to an early exit. He said, “During that Wimbledon tournament, in the second match she lost, and her father came to me screaming, in front of the whole tennis world. ‘What happened? Tell me what happened. You are her coach and you need to know what happened.'”

To which after managing to keep his cool, he responded, “First of all, if he wants information from me, he has to talk to me in another way. Second, if you don’t respect me, I don’t respect you.”

Mouratoglou and Williams claimed a total of  10 Grand Slam trophies and executed a partnership of almost a decade. They parted ways last year after the former world no.1 incurred a hamstring injury in the very first round of Wimbledon. Following that, the 52-year-old formed an alliance with the Romanian tennis ace, Simona Halep, and currently he is assisting her on tour.

After saying goodbye to the world renowned coach, Williams shook hands with the elder sister Venus’ coach for her comeback event. She collaborated with Eric Hechtman for her England tour. The former World no.1 alongside Hechtman made a quarterfinal run in the doubles of the Eastbourne International. Though she failed to leave an impact in Wimbledon.

Thereafter, she added Rennae Stubbs to her team. Williams, under the guidance of the Aussie, will now play for her seventh trophy in the upcoming US Open.
