Romanian tennis star Simona Halep landed in troubled waters when she tested positive for a banned substance at the US Open. Ever since the former world number one is on a provisionary ban and is still fighting for her cause. After getting the reports, the Romanian pleaded not guilty.

As the investigation is on and the final decision is pending, her former coach, Darren Cahill, stood strong by her former student. The Aussie came in defense of the under fire athlete and extended his support for Halep. Here’s what he said.

Simona Halep founds support from ex-coach Darren Cahill

Ever since the reports regarding Halep failing the drug test came out, there are different reactions from the tennis community. However, Australian tennis coach Darren Cahill is firm in his belief that his former ward is innocent and won’t cheat at any cost.

Speaking at the Apple podcast, Cahill said, “I think a lot about Simona and I feel bad every time I think about the experiences she goes through.” He further added, “I don’t have much news, but I understand there will be a hearing in February that will give her a chance to present her case.”

Further, the Aussie stood to his belief that Halep would never cheat. “I made a statement about Simona Halep’s case and I’m willing to die next to those words because of her integrity and her DNA. There’s no way she’s cheating. She is a great woman and a great person. There’s no way she could have done the wrong thing. I wish her good luck.”

It is great to see Cahill extending strong support to his former student even after ending the ties.

Halep finds out the root cause behind the banned substance in her blood

Halep expressed shock after receiving the drug test reports. From the beginning, the Romanian tennis star has maintained her claim of innocence. Ever since the reports were out, Halep was looking for the reason the substance was present in her body.

The former world number one finally succeeded in her quest and found that it was present in one of her supplements. Further, Halep requested a meeting with ITAI to clear her name so that she can compete at the top stage again.
