Coco Gauff seems to be quite a character and loves to express her side of things. The 12th-seeded American was in no mood to keep quiet and was trying to educate a journalist during the post-match press conference.

Earlier, she defeated Zhang Shuai of China 7-5, 7-5 to advance to the next stage of the U.S. Open 2022 and became the youngest American to do it.

She was asked by one of the journalists from the NY Times, about her energy and how animated she generally remains, to which she said, “That was supposed to be like a period, like City Girls period (laughter). City Girls. It’s a City Girl Summer period. That’s what it is (laughter). JT, Yung Miami, you don’t know? It’s like period (laughter). You see I got my long nails. It’s supposed to be like that you know (laughter).”

The American Prodigy seems to like the limelight, and she has embraced it so far rather than being nervous or ignorant for that matter.

The home crowd seemed to enjoy watching Coco with the kind of agility and energy she brought to the table.

Thousands of fans chanted Gauff’s name with approval, and Zhang covered her ears to block out the sound that was amplified by the closed roof of Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Zhang’s error gave Gauff the victory, and the two hugged at the net to conclude the nearly two-hour match.
