Victoria Azarenka has officially made it to the semi-finals of the Australian Open 2023. Defeating her friend Jessica Pegula, Azarenka, who plays under a neutral flag this time gave a vintage performance in the quarter-finals today. However, it is not just the winner’s mindset that motivates her. In the post-match interview, she opened up about what it is like to be a mom and an international tennis player.

The sweet reply has captured the hearts of fans and during Azarenka’s interview, Rod Laver himself was seen smiling. The Australian tennis legend was there in the arena named after him today to witness the intriguing match.

Victoria Azarenka, mom of two!

As the last question of the on-court interview, the presenter asked, “Just lastly, when you become a parent, you are always playing for something bigger than yourself, obviously.” She was asking Victoria how her son and his responsibilities have weighed in on her career. How does she feel while playing with the thought of her son on her mind? “And how much does that help your mindset, knowing that you’re playing for something more than just yourself? And obviously your beautiful son Leo.”

Victoria laughed and said, “Um well, Leo doesn’t really care so much that I’m playing here. He worries more about his football…” the audience breaks in with a laugh. Victoria continued, “and when we gonna go play again out there. But obviously, he is watching some matches. He definitely wants his mom to be home so a few more days here and I’ll be back.”

Then her eyes light up when she mentioned, “Uh, its actually my dog’s birthday today so…” and the audience cheered in the background, supporting her emotions. She ended the interview by saying, “I miss my dog also, so so much. I’ve become a dog-mom as well so I have two kids now.”

Azarenka sweeps the quarter-finals in straight set

Victoria Azarenka won the match against her good friend Pegula in straight sets. Previously, after the fourth round, she was asked about her thoughts on the match with Pegula. She had not just praised her opponent as more than worthy, but also talked about how they play and practice together.

For Azarenka, this match is a great win and by far her best performance in Australia. Adding to the fact that Rod Laver himself was watching the match, Azarenka said she was more than delighted to progress to the semifinals.
