Barbora Krejcikova, the Czech tennis professional, is one of only four women players to win Grand Slam titles in all three categories (women’s singles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles). Barbora has won four Grand Slam titles in doubles, three in the mixed doubles category, and claimed her first singles title last year when she lifted the Suzanne-Lenglen cup at Roland Garros. Despite recovering from an elbow injury, the defending champion couldn’t get past the unfancied teenager in Diane Parry.

Barbora Krejcikova out of Roland Garros

Krejcikova stepped on Philippe-Chatrier on Monday to test her luck against the 19-year-old French tennis professional. However, the Czech’s journey in this year’s event was cut short by the impressive teenager. In the three set long match, the WTA No.2 lost by a scoreline of 6-1, 2-6, 3-6.

While addressing the press, Krejcikova broke down in tears. However, she later gathered herself and said, “There was an option of a surgery, as well, which I denied.”, about her struggles in finding the right plan to treat her injury.

“I didn’t want to do that one, and I was just looking for a different option. I was actually lucky that I found a different option, and with the doctors, they were very nice and they tried to help me the best way they could.”, she added.

Krejcikova can no longer hold her ranking

The Czech professional started the year with a decent quarterfinal run in the hard courts of the Australian Open. In the same tournament, she fared extremely well in the doubles category, securing the title. Not long after that, she suffered an injury to her elbow and walked out of the rest of the hard court season.

Thereafter, she appeared for the first time in the French Open, hoping to defend her title. But now that she has failed to even get past the first round, her ranking will surely suffer the consequences. Barbora will lose her WTA World No.2 status and will fall out of the Top 10.
