Serena Williams has accomplished almost everything that’s available in the sport of tennis. However, the 40-year-old values something more than her achievements. It’s the friendships she has made over the years. Having been on the tour for a long time, Serena has had many tough rivalries. While the on-court rivalry was usually intense, Serena always took the opportunity to make friends when she stepped out of it.
One of Serena’s closest friends on the tour is Caroline Wozniacki. The former Danish player played between 2005-2020 and faced the American legend on a number of occasions. However, her rivalry with the American soon turned into an unbreakable bond of friendship. Back in 2014, when Wozniacki was going through a tough phase, Serena was the first one to comfort her. Caroline Wozniacki was in a longtime relationship with Northern Irish golfer Rory McIlroy. The two were engaged and were going to get married soon. However, the golfer unexpectedly broke off the engagement, which left the tennis star devastated. The Dane, during this difficult period, hardly answered any calls and isolated herself. However, Serena was one of the few who never gave up in contacting her close friend to provide invaluable emotional support.
“I was devastated. I had planned the bachelorette party!” Serena said.
