The tennis icon recently appeared as a guest on “The Drew Barrymore Show,” where she shared a plethora of personal details and briefly discussed her husband and her daughter. She also shared how her daughter comforted her following one of her defeats.

In the conversation, the former world number one said that her daughter Olympia has supported her emotionally after she announced her retirement from the sport. Williams also highlighted how her daughter assisted her in calming down and settling her emotions following her most recent tournament, considering the moment as the sweetest advice ever.

Olympia was present in the stand to cheer her mother on when she played in Cincinnati after announcing her retirement. The 41-year-old recalled what her daughter said after she lost the initial match in Cincinnati and faced an early defeat.

She said, “Apparently she was saying like, ‘Go Momma, I’m so proud of you, and I was like, ‘What?’ So then she comes back after I had lost in Cincinnati, she came back and she’s like, ‘It’s OK, Momma, you just have to do what you feel,’ and I literally wanted to cry it was like, ‘Do what you feel. Do what your heart tells you.’ It was the sweetest thing ever.”

Serena doesn’t let Olympia attend her tennis matches

The American tennis legend revealed that before she announced her retirement, she never allowed her daughter to watch her matches. She had made an expectation earlier this year, as it was an important moment of her career.

While talking about the five-year-old in the same interview, she said that she was worried about her while seeing her in the stands, and got distracted in between the matches. She also recollected a time when she literally forgot that she had to serve, as she was focused on her daughter.
