‘I Never Want To…’ – Intimidated by the On-Court Dominance of Ons Jabeur, 27YO Croatian Reveals a Quirky Wimbledon Memory Ahead of Their Clash in Cincinnati

The Croatian tennis star, Donna Vekić, had a remarkable start to the hard court event in Ohio, where she has already reached the round of 16. During her stellar campaign in the Cincinnati Open, the 27-year-old has already outclassed some of the top players including the Belarusian tennis star, Victoria Azarenka. Now, the former world no.19 is all set up for another high-profile match against the Wimbledon finalist, Ons Jabeur.

However, prior to the thrilling clash, Vekić already looks intimidated by the former world no.2 player’s dominance. She recently brought to light a quirky on-court incident that took place during the grass-court major.

Donna Vekić asserts that she ‘never’ want to practice with Ons Jabeur

Donna Vekić has already squared off with her Tunisian opponent on four occasions on the tour with the latter prevailing in three of them. Now, after almost three seasons, the tennis community will once again get to witness another thrilling clash between the WTA players.

Notably, after prevailing in her three-set thriller (3-6, 6-3,6-4) against Victoria Azarenka, the Croatian was asked to comment on her upcoming blockbuster match against Ons Jabeur. In an on-court interview, Vekić said, “We practiced together in Wimbledon actually just before the tournament. I told my coach after ‘I never want to practice with her again.’”

The 27-year-old reminisced about her practice session with Jabeur during Wimbledon, where the Tunisian reached the championship match by thumping some of the top guns. Speaking about the same, the currently ranked world No. 22 jokingly opened up about how she ‘never’ wants to practice with Jabeur.

However, Vekić also lavished praise on her by saying, “Tomorrow should be interesting, yeah, she is a great player.”

Ahead of the high-profile Cincinnati Open match between Vekić and Jabeur, let’s take a look at their previous clashes in the women’s circuit.

There have been four previous meetings between the WTA superstars and all of them took place in the hardcourt events in the women’s circuit. Vekić and Jabeur first squared off in the Generali Ladies Linz. It was the 28-year-old player who thumped Vekić in straight sets (7-5, 6-1).

However, it was the Croatian tennis star who prevailed in their next encounter during the China Open in Beijing. Later, they also faced each other during the Dubai Duty-Free Championships, in which the currently ranked world no.5 defeated Vekić in straight sets (6-4, 7-6). Apart from this, Jabeur also emerged victorious in their three-set thriller (4-6 6-3 6-3) during the Wuhan Open.
