He further went on appreciating the whole family for inspiring everyone around the globe. Keeping greatness in mind, the 53-year-old actor went on addressing the family as people who Define the American dream.

“What you were able to do, and what your family was able to do, inspired everyone in this room, everyone in this country and everyone around the world. You all define the American dream. You represent the best of what we all hope this world and this country can be.”

The journey of Venus and Serena Williams

In today’s competitive world, a mother is often the least appreciated person in the family. However, it is the truth that a mother is the actual driving force of every family. The Williams family was not different. Even though King Richard was a movie based on the father of Venus and Serena Williams, it gave equal importance to also show the role of their mother in shaping them to become the greatest players of all time.

Recalling the role of the Williams sister’s mother (played by Aunjanue Ellis); Smith asserted that he loved the fact that they were able to show how their mother supported and helped the daughters and Richard Williams to achieve their dream. He said, “I love that we were able to show what your mother did. To help create and mold and shape your family, and be able to show to the world the power of faith, the power of unity, the power of family, the power of discipline.

Smith ended his speech by talking about the difficulties faced by Venus and Serena Williams in order to achieve their dream. The actor felt that even though Venus smiled a bit after winning, Serena refrained from it.

“Studying your family and working hard to understand and deliver your story. I saw the secret scary hard places that you went out on that court and you smiled. And you did your job but Serena didn’t smile all the time on the court. But that was a part of it.”
