‘I Think About Jana Often’ – Martina Navratilova Reminisces the Memory of Czech Republican Tennis Legend Who Passed Away Due to Cancer

Martina Navratilova ruled women’s tennis during the 80s and the 90s. She, along with Chris Evert, won a major chunk of big tournaments in women’s tennis. Further, she was one of the fittest athletes on the tour, following a nutritious diet and leading a healthy lifestyle. However, things took a bad turn when she was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 53.

Navratilova fought hard against this disease and won her battle against cancer. Recently, she reminisced the memory of the Czech Republican tennis legend, who had lost her battle against cancer.

Martina Navratilova remembers Jana Novotna

The 65-year-old took to Twitter to remember Novotna, against whom she played some memorable encounters. She said, “I think about Jana often… not sure why we never played together, we would have been fierce.”

Her statement was in response to a Twitter user who asked her, @Martina Been remembering Jana this week and just wondered if you both ever considered teaming up back in the day.”

Further, Navratilova faced off against Jana Novotna seven times during her career. She dominated her rivalry against the Czech Republican, winning six out of the seven matches played against her.

During her illustrious career, Novotna reached the highest ranking of Number 1 and 2 in doubles and singles, respectively. Moreover, she managed to win 17 Grand Slam titles in total, with 12 coming in women’s doubles, 4 in mixed doubles, and a solitary major singles title.

Navratilova once criticized Novak Djokovic

During an episode of The Ladies’ Room podcast, the 65-year-old was in conversation with Jane and Julie where she talked about Djokovic’s stance on equal pay for male and female tennis players. Back then, the Serb had revealed that male tennis players should be paid more as they attracted greater interest.

Slamming Djokovic for his comments, Navratilova said, I’m it’s just disappointing that Novak would be that nearsighted that he wouldn’t see the big picture.”

The Serb received widespread criticism for his comments. However, he later took to social media to apologize for his views.
