Victoria Azarenka is a tough tennis player. She has been active for almost 20 years on the circuit. Even if she has had to face a lot of ups and downs in her life, she has come back to the sport with resilience. As tennis is to her, boxing is to her friend Gennady Golovkin.

She recently talked about the outlet boxing provides for him. Furthermore, she also talked about the martial arts classes her son is currently taking.

Azarenka was talking in a podcast about the value of martial arts in one’s life and how it becomes an outlet for one’s own challenges. She gave an example of her friend, Gennady Golovkin, who is a professional boxer from Kazakhstan, and famously goes by the name ‘GGG’ or ‘Triple G’. She talked about how everybody has different stories about being the way they are.

She said, “When I spoke to him about how he got into boxing and stuff, it’s not the same story.” Furthermore, she added, “It’s a very different story but a similar concept to each one as to why did they do that.” Azarenka was astonished because his personality contradicted his outlook on boxing.

She said, “It was very interesting because he is very calm and smiley. He told me, ‘when I go in the ring; I wanna kill.'” She narrated, “He’s like ‘That’s my outlet.'” She agreed with that and said, “I think everybody has personal things that they deal with to give the outlet.”

Azarenka on her son and his interests

The Belarusian star has won two grand slam titles and has been a former world no.1. Now, she focuses on both her sport and her son. She revealed in the podcast that her son has an interest in martial arts.

She said, “Leo’s one trophy is from martial arts, he’s doing Karate.” Azarenka praised his resilience and said, “He is super competitive. Every time he gets a new stripe, a new belt, it’s very exciting for him.”

Besides that, the two-time Australian Open champion is gearing up for the US Open. She could not take part in the Canadian Open because of visa issues. Apart from that, she lost to Xiyu Wang in the quarter-finals.
