Ending the long wait, 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams is finally set to make a comeback at the upcoming 2022 Wimbledon Championships. Suffering from a hamstring injury at SW19 last year, Williams was forced to stay out of the tour for a complete year.

Serena’s comeback announcement at SW19 has come in as a treat for the entire tennis community. Alongside fans, players like Coco Gauff are also thrilled to see Serena back on the court. However, the 18-year-old American also has some worries concerning Serena.

An excited Coco Gauff concerned over the comeback of Serena Williams

Going down memory lane, one can recall the transition of Serena Williams from clay to grass. Unlike the majority of players, Serena has always preferred to enter the Wimbledon Championships without playing any build up grass court tournament.

Gauff considers Serena as her idol and wishes to walk in her footsteps. However, she prefers to not reciprocate Serena’s transition from French Open to Wimbledon. Preparing for Wimbledon, Gauff is currently in Berlin competing at the WTA 500 Bett10 Open.

Yesterday, during her first-round press conference, Gauff opened up about Serena’ comeback. The 2022 French Open finalist started by asserting that she was pleasantly shocked to learn about it. “I was really shocked. I didn’t know. I knew she was gonna come back. I know she hinted at Wimbledon.”

However, the excitement soon turned into a serious talk with Gauff expressing her concern over Serena. The American teenager spoke about Serena coming back from injury at the age of 40. Considering Serena’s age, Gauff also spoke about the former World No. 1’s longevity on the tour.

“Coming back from injury, especially at her age, nothing is really certain. I’m super excited and glad that she’s back. Realistically it may be one of the few last times that we get to see her play professionally,” Gauff added.

While Gauff had her concern in place, she didn’t shy away from presenting her fan girl point of view. The American ended the conversation by by saying, “I would definitely be marching and trying to relish it.”
