Subsequently, the American legend has been away from action since that unfortunate injury suffered in June, last season. As a result, Serena has dropped out of the top-1000 of the WTA rankings. Recently, her former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, detailed the conversation between them before announcing an end to their partnership.

Patrick Mouratoglou on being fair to Serena Williams

Talking about the conversation he had with the younger Williams sister before ending the coaching partnership with her, Mouratoglou explained, “I wanted to be fair to her and not be disappointed at the end of my career. I went to ask her what she was going to do. It wasn’t very clear to her. I asked her if she wanted to go to Roland Garros. [She] told me [she] didn’t know. It was six weeks before the tour. I told her that I was waiting for her on Monday for training and if she didn’t come I would consider myself free.”

DIVE DEEPER: ‘Has Just Won His 42nd Roland-Garros Title!’ – Eugenie Bouchard Shares a Hilarious Meme After Rafael Nadal Defeats Casper Ruud in the Final of French Open 2022

Earlier this month, the entry list for the singles competition of Wimbledon 2022 was released. However, Serena’s name is missing from the list, meaning she won’t play singles at the tournament this season. There is a possibility that she might team up with her elder sister, Venus Williams, to participate in women’s doubles.

Serena set to lose her WTA ranking

As a result of her lengthy injury layoff, the 23-time Grand Slam champion will become unranked after Wimbledon. She hasn’t played for around a year now and will lose all the ranking points that she had earned last season, which will move her out of the WTA rankings chart.
