Tennis star Eugenie Bouchard was an exciting prospect when she first arrived. She had a great juniors career and was one to watch out for in the future. Sadly, things have not gone as per her plans in recent times.

Bouchard, who belongs to Canada, recently gave an interview to Breakfast Television over the recently announced partnership of Rogers with Tennis Canada as they aim to build 160 courts over the next few years in order to encourage youth to take up tennis. A total of $5.6 million dollars will be spent on this prestigious mission.

Eugenie Bouchard is thankful for Canadian bodies

Over the years, both these bodies have contributed immensely towards the development of tennis in Canada. Bouchard mentions that had not been for Rogers, she may have never reached the heights on the WTA tour.

“It’s a really great initiative. Rogers is really focused on getting youth to pick up a tennis racquet as opposed to maybe other sports and grow the sport in our country. Look, if Rogers didn’t exist, I wouldn’t even be here right now. It’s very important to have these in Canada to give kids the opportunity to play more. Now that tennis is so popular, it’s hard to get an indoor court, even for me. It’s what we need to grow our sport.”

No tennis in a long time

Coming to tennis, Bouchard has been out of action for more than a year. She was last seen competing at the WTA Monterrey Open. Post that, she couldn’t compete on tour due to a shoulder injury. The Canadian subsequently underwent surgery for the same and recently made a comeback at an exhibition event.
