Many have detailed the fall WTA will witness with Williams’ departure. Speaking of which, here’s a podcast in which the world-renowned athlete Lance Armstrong addressed how his will to follow tennis pans around Williams’ presence.
Lance Armstrong – A die-hard Williams fan
The American road racing cyclist, in a 2016 interview with Chris Evert spoke about how he allots time to tennis. He said, “If the US Open was on, for example, and I had a choice between the men’s final and the women’s final and it’s like the Belarusian girl or the Italian girl, I probably wouldn’t watch it.”
“If Serena was in it, I would watch it,” Armstrong added. Coming of Williams’ impact around that time, the former World no.1 started the 2016 season riding high on form.

Williams was holding the ranking of World no.1 and was the defending champion of five tournaments, including the Australian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon. She made up to the finals of both the events and secured her seventh title in the greens of London.

Serena Williams’ retirement tour
The 23-time Grand Slam champion made a comeback in Wimbledon this season after spending around a year on the sidelines. After oiling her skills in the doubles of Eastbourne, she jumped on the courts of grass majors. However, due to a lost grip, she failed to get past her first opponent.

Following that arrived the news of her retirement alongside enrollment for the WTA 1000 events and the Grand Slam of the American swing. The former decided to perform her last dance on the hard courts of the US Open.

She secured her first win of the season in Toronto, packed her bags from the opening round of Cincinnati Masters, and then marched towards the US Open. Williams, keeping her record intact, made up to the third round and, with teary eyes, bid adieu to the sport she loved.
