World No. 2 Iga Swiatek cruised past Marie Bouzkova 6-1, 6-1 on a scorching Tuesday at the Wuhan Open. It was the same day that witnessed both Emma Raducanu and Jelena Ostapenko retire from their matches. The Pole, who enjoyed a first-round bye, looked as sharp as ever, and with that victory, she quietly etched her name into the history books once again.

According to Tennis on X, “🇵🇱 @iga_swiatek has just become the first woman to win 60 or more matches in four straight years THIS CENTURY. 🔥🔥🔥🔥 She won 67 matches in 2022, 68 matches in 2023, 64 matches in 2024, and she just won her 60th match of 2025 in Wuhan.”

For starters, only a select few have sustained that level of brilliance year after year. Despite their incredible peaks, even legends like Serena Williams and rising stars like Coco Gauff never strung together four consecutive 60-win seasons.

Williams, for instance, had just one season of 60+ wins in 2013. But she never had four consecutive years crossing the 60-win threshold. While Coco Gauff has compiled strong win totals (e.g., 54 wins in 2024), matching Swiatek’s four straight 60-win campaigns turned out to be a tall order.

Interestingly, the previous two women to pull off this kind of streak were Martina Hingis and Lindsay Davenport. Hingis managed it from 1997 to 2001, putting up win/loss records of 78–5, 67–13, 71–13, 77–10, 60–15. On the other hand, Davenport accomplished it four times between 1998 and 2001.

What makes Iga Swiatek’s achievement even more remarkable is that she is now the only player, male or female, to record 60 or more wins over the four seasons from 2022 to 2025. And here’s the kicker: no one else on either tour even came close to matching that in 2022, 2023, or 2024.

The Polish star has been brilliant in WTA 1000 events:

• Swiatek won 31 consecutive opening matches. Only Hingis (40) has done better since 1990.
• This was also Swiatek’s 100th straight-sets win in 153 matches. Only Serena Williams achieved it in fewer matches (144).

“Every tournament I go to, I want to play my best game,” Swiatek said in Wuhan. “Sometimes I deliver; sometimes not, but yeah, my expectation is to just do my best. Honestly, I don’t set goals like a semifinal or whatever. Just really making it step by step.”

Making her debut appearance in Wuhan, Swiatek looked right at home under the lights. She dictated play against Marie Bouzkova from the start, striking cleanly and moving with her usual precision. It took her just an hour and 19 minutes to wrap up a commanding 6-1, 6-1 win. This worthy performance perfectly reflected the level of dominance behind those record-breaking numbers.

While Iga Swiatek is closing in on the No. 1 spot, it goes without saying that others are trying to give her fierce competition.

During the latest episode of the Nothing Major podcast on October 7, former ATP stars John Isner, Jack Sock, Sam Querrey, and Steve Johnson sat down to discuss the buzzing tennis headlines. Querrey couldn’t hide his admiration when the topic turned to Amanda Anisimova. She knocked down her compatriot and two-time Grand Slam champion Coco Gauff out of the China Open semifinals before defeating Linda Noskova in the final. Querrey quickly praised her form, saying, “Sometimes I watch her play and I think she’s the best player in the world.”

He jumped on the bandwagon, making a bold prediction about Anisimova’s rise. “I know she’s ranked the third best, but when I watch her these last few months, the eye test tells me she’s No. 1,” he said. If that wasn’t enough, the former Wimbledon semifinalist even suggested that Anisimova could reach the top of the WTA rankings soon.

Anisimova’s 2025 season has certainly backed up that confidence. She’s the only player to have beaten all three of the current top-ranked women this year: Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, and Coco Gauff. The American star stunned Sabalenka in the Wimbledon semifinals, avenged her loss to Swiatek from the Wimbledon final by defeating her at the US Open quarterfinals, and then crushed Gauff in the China Open semis before lifting the title.

She officially sits at World No.4 while Sabalenka, Swiatek, and Gauff occupy the top 3.
