Iga Swiatek is having a scintillating 2022 season so far. The 20-year-old won her fourth consecutive tournament of the year at Stuttgart Open after winning three back-to-back Masters 1000 titles earlier this season. She sealed her 7th WTA singles title by defeating Aryna Sabalenka 6-2, 6-2 in the finals in Stuttgart. This incidentally was her debut at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix.

Iga Swiatek is simply unstoppable this year
While her great form began at the Australian Open, where she reached the semifinals, there was a slight dip when she lost in her second-round match at the Dubai Tennis Championships. But since then she has been unstoppable. She won the title at the Qatar Open and then went on to complete the Sunshine double earlier this Spring. Before coming into the Stuttgart Open Iga Swiatek also won two matches for Poland at the Billie Jean King Cup qualifiers. Not only did that lead Poland into the finals, it also consolidated a 19 match winning streak for the 20-year-old.
World No.1 Iga Swiatek wins Stuttgart to capture her 4th straight title and 7th career title. The run extends her winning streak to 23 matches, tying Naomi Osaka’s streak from 2020-21.

With the win at Stuttgart, she extends her winning streak to 23 and joins her friend, Naomi Osaka who achieved the feat during her 2020-21 run. She also made an entry into the list of all-time match-winning streaks since the 2000s. This list is headed by Venus and Serena Williams at 35 and 34, respectively. “Pretty surreal, honestly. A few years ago I wouldn’t even think about being in this kind of group,” she said when asked about the achievement.

“For sure right now I need to work harder to keep this streak, but I’m just going to take it match by match, and I’m super proud of myself and really satisfied. These are the kind of players who were role models when I was growing up,” she added.
The Pole’s humility about her records
Since her debut, Swiatek has pretty much been extremely dominant in the finals. After her dominant win in Stuttgart, she has now won seven finals in a row, without dropping a set.
