During their virtual interview that was shared on Instagram, Alwill asks Venus about a problem she herself and the women she coaches face. “How do you show up unapologetically in your relationships?” She further elaborates on her question, “How do you feel like your most confident self? Do you feel unapologetic in your relationships? Are you insecure ever?”

Now, for a woman like Venus Williams, nobody would ever believe that she has something to be insecure about. And it’s right. As Venus herself says, “Yeah…I don’t feel insecure because I grew up with a mom who told us “You are you. Don’t apologize for anything. Be yourself. Doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks.” So I had really good role models in there.”

Venus’ approach to relationships seems to be rooted in self-confidence and self-acceptance. Her experiences playing sports have further strengthened this sense of self-assuredness. In relationships, Venus looks for someone who is fully committed to her and is truthful. She said, “For me, in relationships, I’ve always wanted someone who is a 100% down for me. If you’re not, I don’t want you here. I’m completely offended if you’re not. Second is that I want something that’s truthful.”

Venus has a different idea about “living”

The founder of the healthy living brand Happy Viking feels that she wouldn’t call it living if she cannot be her true self with her partner. Venus also says her philosophy of living life with no regrets and being accountable to herself also helps her maintain her confidence in her relationships. By staying true to herself and her values, Venus is able to show up unapologetically in her relationships and be her most confident self.

Back when she spoke to Vogue about her relationships, she made it clear that she does not ever feel pressure to be in one. And that is what sets her apart. A woman who is not ready to settle, apologize for being herself, or base her whole life on some romantic “achievement”.
