Johanna Konta was once a household name in British tennis. The 30-year-old has won 4 titles on the WTA tour and has been ranked as high as World No. 4. She achieved it on July 17, 2017, post her semi-final finish at Wimbledon.

Konta sent shockwaves across the tennis circuit when she announced her decision to retire from the sport last year, at the age of just 30. She had been struggling with a persistent knee problem and thus decided to step away from a remarkable career. However, recently, she talked about unfortunate comments and remarks she has received since her retirement, which she believes her counterparts on the ATP Tour would not have to face.

While speaking to The Telegraph, she revealed that a tennis press had asked her whether her relatively early retirement was to start a family with partner Jackson Wade, whom she married last month.

Slamming the press, she said, “As a woman, you start getting to a certain age, hitting certain milestones and then it is straightaway assumed – okay, well, when’s the baby coming?”

Further, she added, “I don’t think it’s done with any harm, but it would be nice to talk about my career and things like that – like my male counterparts in the sport. I’m not sure they’re asking Rafa Nadal when he was finally going to marry his girlfriend before he did, or when he is going to have kids.”

Johanna Konta had announced her shock retirement in December last year. While informing about this news, she had said, “My playing career has come to an end, and I am so incredibly grateful for the career that it turned out to be.”

The 30-year-old managed a semi-final finish at each of the Grand Slams, barring the US Open. Her best result at the year-ending Grand Slam was a quarter-finals appearance in 2019.
