On Thursday, Serena attended the TechCrunch Disrupt to share her experience with and give advice to newcomers. There, while addressing a packed auditorium, she revealed how she and Ohanian keep their business matters out of their marriage. Regardless of being among the best in the field, they “stay in their own lanes.”

“We are both so competitive,” Williams said. “I’m internally so competitive. You can’t read my face if inside I’m screaming and dying. We don’t want that, so we keep it very separate.”

Further, the former World no.1 also opened up about an investment opportunity that she, to this day, regrets. In the early days of her investment career, because Williams “just didn’t have the infrastructure or the time,” she had to turn down an offer. Though she refused to name the startup, she disclosed that it was “before people were doing rideshares.”
