Billie Jean King recalls the young days of Venus and Serena

Billie Jean King has always been vocal about her love for the Williams sisters. Attending numerous matches of the two, the 78-year-old has been one of the biggest admirers of Venus and Serena’s game. A similar situation took place today.

Venus Williams and Serena Williams were born in 1980 and 81, respectively. On the other hand, Billie Jean King retired from professional tennis in 1983. Doing the math, Billie Jean King retired from tennis at a time when the Williams sisters didn’t even know how to hold a racquet.

However, just like the aura of the Williams sisters today, Billie Jean King had the same aura at that time. Meaning that her presence remained there even after retirement. Even though the Williams sisters didn’t play King on the tour, they got it in 1988, at the Domino’s Pizza World Team Tennis clinic in Long Beach.

Exactly 34 years later, today, the 1st of May, Billie Jean King went down memory lane. Taking to her Twitter, she put up a tweet recalling her first meeting with the Williams sisters. Writing about the meeting, she called it an ‘honor’ meeting Venus and Serena Williams. She also confessed that the sisters were as impressive at that time as they are now.

She wrote, “As impressive then as they are now” – Billie Jean King asserts Venus and Serena Williams of having the same level of impressive factor like that in the past.

The much-awaited comeback of Venus and Serena Williams

Venus Williams and Serena Williams have been out of the tour since last year. Venus last played at the Chicago Open. On the other hand, Serena last played at the 2021 Wimbledon.
