The Wimbledon Championship is arguably the most prestigious of all four grand slam events. What makes it even more special is the iconic battle between legendary players over the years. After a year out of the tour, one such player, the 7-time Wimbledon champion Serena Williams, returned to the famed grass-courts of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club for a practice session.

She last played a professional singles event at the 2021 Wimbledon, in which she suffered a hamstring injury.

After being out of the tour for a year, Serena, taking to social media, announced her comeback at the 2022 Wimbledon Championship.However, prior to making her comeback, the former World No. 1 opted to polish her skills.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion played in the women’s doubles draw at the Eastbourne International. Entering with Ons Jabeur, the two sailed through the initial rounds to enter the semifinals. However, prior to the semifinal clash, the team announced a withdrawal after Jabeur suffered a knee injury.

Following the withdrawal, Serena, who initially had to reach Wimbledon after her Eastbourne campaign, reached SW19 yesterday. A move that not only gave her the room for a few extra days of practice but also acted as a celebratory moment for fans. Capturing the 7-time singles champion on her way to her first practice, Wimbledon took to its Twitter handle, sharing the iconic moment.

Following Wimbledon customs, the 40-year-old headed to the practice court in a white full sleeves T-shirt. A fashionista from the start, she completed her look with gray stockings and a bag on her shoulder.

Going back to Eastbourne, Serena was in solid form while playing doubles with Jabeur. Having her shots and service in place, the American legend looked in good shape for her final showdown at the 2022 Wimbledon Championship.

Her Wimbledon practice was no different. Hitting the ball with control, the most dominant player of her generation polished her forehand and backhand. Parting ways with longtime coach Patrick Mouratoglou, Serena is at Wimbledon with sister Venus Williams’ coach, Eric Hechtman.

Serena is set to kick off her comeback journey at the 2022 Wimbledon. Unlike previous years, Williams this year will be entering the draw as a Wildcard entrant. While the fans look kind enough to not expect a peak performance from a player coming back after a year, they are hopeful of something that Serena does best. Miracles.
