Indian Wells 2024: Caroline Wozniacki vs Angelique Kerber Preview; Head-to-Head, and Prediction

After the conclusion of the round of 32 fixtures of the Indian Wells Masters, the stage is set for a blockbuster encounter between two Grand Slam winners on the women’s tour. The former Australian Open champion, Caroline Wozniacki, will lock horns with the 3-time singles Grand Slam champion, Angelique Kerber, in a high-profile R16 match. As both the former world No. 1 players will be vying for a deep run at ‘Tennis Paradise,’ it will be interesting to see who comes out on top in this exciting clash.

The outdoor hard court event, which is part of the WTA 1000 category, features some of the top guns on the women’s tour contesting at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. Though high-profile matches usually take place in the latter stages, one will be seen in the round of 16 of the BNP Paribas Open.

After a lackluster run at the San Diego Open, Caroline Wozniacki is now back on the court at the WTA 1000 tournament. Entering the Indian Wells Masters as an unseeded participant, the Danish tennis star brushed aside the likes of Zhu Lin and Donna Vekić in straight sets of her initial round matches. In the round of 32, Wozniacki then defeated her American opponent, Katie Volynets, while pulling off a bagel set, 6-2, 4-4, 6-0.

Angelique Kerber, on the other hand, is coming to the Indian Wells Open after her first-round defeat at the Linz Open. In her first two games of the event, the German tennis player overcame Petra Martić and Jeļena Ostapenko to reach the round of 32. Kerber then breezed past Veronika Kudermetova in a straight-set game, 6-4, 7-5.

Wozniacki vs Kerber: Head-to-Head

The R16 match between Caroline Wozniacki and Angelique Kerber at the BNP Paribas Open will also mark their 16th meeting on the WTA circuit. In both their previous meetings at the International Eastbourne and Doha Open, the Dane defeated the 3-time singles Grand Slam champion. However, in their overall H2H record, it is Kerber who currently has an 8-7 lead.

Prediction: Wozniacki to come out on top in the round of 16 match of the Indian Wells Masters

After her comeback on the tour in the 2023 season, the Dane looks to have found her rhythm on the court as she participated in a number of tournaments. Wozniacki has only dropped a single set, and she also pulled off a bagel set during her campaign at the Indian Wells Open.

Kerber, on the other hand, has only played a handful of games after returning to her tennis duties this season.
