With two WTA Tour singles titles and a former number 7 under her belt, Danielle Collins has decided to put down her racket at the end of this season. While she would have thought of marking some memorable campaigns during her farewell season, things aren’t looking easy for the American tennis star. After being given the task of locking horns with some of the top guns on the women’s tour, another big challenge now awaits Collins at the Indian Wells Open.

This season, the former number 7 player has already tasted some initial round defeats at the hands of some players of high caliber, including Iga Świątek and Elena Rybakina. Now that she is all set to participate in another tournament, Collins might have to overcome yet another top-ranked player at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

The fixtures of this season’s BNP Paribas Open have been announced, and the American tennis player is in the same quarter of the singles draw as the 4-time singles Grand Slam champion, Iga Świątek. If both the WTA superstars manage to prevail in their initial round matches, they will have to square off against each other in the round of 32 of the tournament.

This won’t be the first time this season that Collins and Świątek will be up against each other on the court. Even at the Australian Open, the pair locked horns in the second round, with the Pole coming out in a thrilling game with a score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. With her Grand Slam win against Collins, the current number 1 player now also has a dominating 5-1 lead in their H2H record. Aside from this, the American failed to prevail in another initial round match against a top-ranked player.

The American tennis player swept aside the likes of Despina Papamichail and Linda Fruhvirtova to secure a place in the main draw of the Abu Dhabi Open. In her first-round game, Collins then thumped the former Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka while pulling off a bagel set, 7-5, 6-0.
