The second semifinal of the Indian Wells Masters has been paused several times so far. It was first delayed because of worsening weather, but the first set was eventually completed. Then it saw another delay as Coco Gauff called for her physio. The American youngster is facing Maria Sakkari and is finding it difficult to put up a competitive performance.

Coco Gauff prolongs the match with a medical break

The semifinal clash of the local favorite Gauff is not falling her way. The bout was postponed in the first set due to rain when Gauff was leading 4-3. When the clash resumed, she did not find it easy to keep up with her opponent and let the lead slip as Sakkari ended the set 6-4. As the second set began, another rain delay took place and Gauff called for medical assistance.

One fan wrote on ‘X’, “Doesn’t feel good 🤕 Coco Gauff 🇺🇸 requested medical assistance after finishing the first set because she felt dizzy and a little nauseous. They are taking your blood pressure.

As Gauff looked to deal with her medical issues, tennis fans found themselves being irritated by the constant rain delays in the tournament. In the second semifinal, rain caused two delays and continued to threaten more.

Gauff, being the US Open champion and the local favorite, has many more Americans rooting for her than Sakkari. While the rain delays are frustrating many, they are grateful to some extent as Gauff will have more time to recover.

Another person commented on a video of hers which showed Sakkari winning the first set due to Gauff launching a forehand way beyond the baseline. They hoped that Gauff would win the game and that the rain delay would give her enough time to recover and come back to her usual form.
