Emma Navarro has been dominating headlines, not to mention social media, over the last few hours. The 22-year-old American is one to watch out for this time at the 2024 BNP Paribas Open. She started the season with a title triumph in her second tournament of 2024 campaign in Hobart.

Now, with her latest victory against Elina Svitolina in the R32 of the Indian Wells Masters, she has secured her 17th on the WTA Tour this year. That’s the most by any player so far this season. What about Iga Swiatek? Well, the world number currently sits at the second spot on this list.

Emma Navarro taking the world by storm with her winning streak

Navarro defeated Elina Svitolina by 6-1,4-6,6-3 to book her place against Aryna Sabalenka in the R16 of the BNP Paribas Open. This will be her first fourth-round appearance in Indian Wells. She is currently sitting at the top with 17 wins in 2024 season. Her fans hope there will be a few more to add to her tallies at the end of this tournament.

But Iga Swiatek is currently breathing down her neck, with 16 wins in her bag. And guess what? The world number is still alive at the BNP Paribas Open. Will Navarro manage to extend her lead over the Polish superstar or will Swiatek showcase her dominance in the world of women’s tennis yet again?

As long as Emma Navarro has her biggest supporter on her side, she believes there’s nothing to worry about. Here’s what she said in the post-match press conference, “I have to give a special shout-out to my grandmother. She’s 92, and she’s awake watching at home. I don’t think she’s missed a match since I’ve been on tour. Shout out to Grammy. Thanks for watching.

Iga Swiatek on the other hand, is leaving no stone unturned to secure her top spot in the women’s singles ranking. She recently got her revenge by defeating the 19YO Czech tennis player, Linda Noskova in their R32 match. What did Swiatek say afterward?

Iga Swiatek will look to overtake Navarro by securing a few more victories at Indian Wells

Iga Swiatek was defeated by Linda Noskova in the third round of the AO a few weeks ago. But this time, the Polish tennis star managed to defeat Noskova emphatically by a 6-4,6-0 margin to reach the fourth of the Indian Wells Masters.

In the post-match press conference, Swiatek admitted she made some “mistakes” at the beginning by trying to finish the rallies too early. But later on, she changed her mind. “I had to kind of change some negative thoughts that I had into just thinking that I wasn’t thinking about just waiting for my chances. I knew that I’m experienced enough to just, you know, hold it together and not really let myself let these negative thoughts win. So I just did that,” Swiatek.

She will next face Yulia Putintseva in her R16 Match. And, if she wins that match she’ll equal Emma Navarro’s record of the total match wins this season. But thankfully for the American, she has the fate in her own hands but defeating Aryna Sabalenka will always be a tough ask for the 22YO. Do you think Navarro can extend his winning streak on will Iga Swiatek overtake her massive record in this tournament itself?
