Caroline Wozniacki on her ‘accidental’ return to the tour

The Danish tennis player once again graced the hard courts of this season’s Grand Slam champion event in New York. After some mesmerizing initial round performances, Wozniacki was knocked out of the US Open after her round of 16 matchup against eventual champion Coco Gauff. The hard-court major event marked the third tournament in which the 33-year-old played following her return to the tour.

While emphasizing her robust comeback, Wozniacki recently opened up about how, ‘almost by accident’, she has found herself back in this position. In the latest episode of the AO Show podcast, Dane said, “I texted my friend, who I’ve been hitting with on a regular basis throughout my career, and said: ‘Hey, can we set up a once-a-week hit, just so that I can get a sweat going and a little bit of cardio?’ “

Wozniacki revealed that a tennis comeback wasn’t a part of her plans and that she felt compelled to hit the gym again in order to keep up with her fitness levels. She added, “That’s kind of how it started – it was really innocent.”

After making a return to the court, the former Grand Slam champion also opened up about how she is now a different player, with a different perspective.

Wozniacki said, “I felt like I hit the ball better than ever, because there was no pressure, no reason to stress over anything.”
