The NCAA March Madness concluded to much fanfare recently. However, what caught the fans’ eyes was the emergence of superstars in women’s basketball. The likes of Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark have become a force to reckon with on the court. They have become superstars at a very young age and are dubbed to take the sport to greater heights. And among the legendary entities who have acknowledged this fact is Serena Williams, champion of women’s sports.

After calling time on her tennis career in 2022, Williams has actively embraced her business side by investing in fields like technology and sports. With Clark’s recent heroics, the American tennis legend was left astounded and has commented on the growth of women’s sports in general and women’s basketball in particular.

Serena Williams hails the likes of Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese

Despite narrowly missing out on the NCAA Championship title, Caitlin Clark’s tremendous achievements were enough to grab the attention of Serena Williams. During an interview with CNN Sports, Williams talked about the rapid rise of women’s basketball and its future, “I think it always has been happening, we just needed the right people, the right catalysts and I think that has been happening over the past two years. I think women’s sport is having a moment that it should’ve always had.”

Further, she went on to add, “Tennis had its moment, now is the time to lift this sport, soccer, women’s basketball. There are so many other sports that women do so great. I feel like women’s basketball is getting there.”

Not just Williams but also her husband, Alexis Ohanian, is a massive supporter of women’s sports. While he’s an investor in women’s soccer club Angel City FC, Ohanian can foresee the massive rise of women’s sports. As a result, Serena Williams also revealed her wish to own a women’s sporting club someday.

Williams to own a WNBA club?

As an active investor, the American tennis legend likes to give time to associations where she foresees growth and in her areas of interest. While women’s sports in general and WNBA in particular fulfill both conditions, Williams revealed her wish to invest in a women’s basketball team.

She said, “I absolutely would be (interested). With the right market, I would definitely be super interested in that .” Furthermore, Williams also acknowledged the fact that it is safe to invest in this and there weren’t any risk factors involved.
