Iga Swiatek leapfrogged the rankings table and claimed the crown of World No 1. She initially received the ranking because of the former WTA No 1 Ash Barty’s sudden retirement. However, with the passing seasons, she proved how worthy she is of the position.

Swiatek executed a monstrous 37-winning streak and claimed two Grand Slams. She, in a way, increased Poland’s reach and dominance in the sport. Therefore, a short film has been produced as a tribute to her legendary run this year.
Iga Swiatek recreates Simba from Lion King
Swiatek recently shared a clip where she recreated a famous scene from the 1994 classic ‘The Lion King’. She stood over a bridge beside the Polish voice actor who voiced Mufasa and delivered a role similar to Simba. “I have a surprise for you after this amazing season. Let’s celebrate it in my own special way – with fun!” Swiatek wrote.

The video used the movie’s dialogues to explain how much power the title of Word No 1 holds and the responsibilities it brings. Further, it also had a fun twist where the 21-year-old makes a witty joke about her Wimbledon defeat. “All of this will be mine?” Swiatek asks.
To which Wiktor Zborowski, nodding his head in affirmation, responds, “All of this.”

Swiatek’s winning streak ended in Wimbledon. She incurred a surprise third-round defeat in the grass courts of London. However, post that the two-time French Open champion reclaimed her form and reigned in the US Open.

Possible threats to Swiatek’s run
The Pole has a habit of finishing her opponents in straight sets. Only a few can drag the battle against her till the third set and those players are the ones who harbor the caliber of defeating her. One of them is Aryna Sabalenka.

The Belarusian tennis ace, in the US Open, gave a tough fight to Swiatek for a seat in the finals and was the one who ended her run in the WTA Finals. Further, the Cincinnati Masters champion Caroline Garcia is also a threat. She not only outclassed Swiatek in her home-based tournament but also defeated her slayer Sabalenka in the WTA Finals.

Last but not least, the 18-year-old American rising star Coco Gauff. Although she incurred a painful defeat in Texas, she is still in the establishment phase and growing faster than many professionals. Gauff, this season only, became the youngest player since Maria Sharapova to compete for a Grand Slam title and qualify for the WTA Finals.
