Naomi Osaka was absent throughout the 2023 season due to pregnancy and childbirth. Her comeback in 2024 was highly anticipated, but it is not going in her favor at the moment. Early exits and a failure to give tough competition to her opponents give her a terrible start to the season. Osaka had an early exit in the Abu Dhabi Open, which made fans worried.

While she struggles, Osaka will rely on the current strategy for a few more tournaments to come. She currently suffered a big defeat in the first tournament of the Middle Eastern swing.

Osaka’s comeback has been less than fruitful. In the ongoing Abu Dhabi Open, she was set to begin her stint by playing against Danielle Collins. The American star is not in the best form herself and has stated that she will retire after the 2024 season. Collins has been struggling with her form, but she had no issues dispatching Osaka. The scoreboard read 7-5, 6-0 after their bout concluded.

During the post-match interview, a reporter asked her if she would focus on playing WTA 250 tournaments to gain some points and momentum. Osaka replied, “I think I’m going to finish out the hard-court swing and then figure it out. I’m less confident but I’m not too unconfident to think that I can’t play really good tennis.”

The hard court swing currently will last till mid-March before the Charleston Open begins. Therefore, Osaka is set to play in WTA 500 and Masters tournaments for a long time. As she exited Abu Dhabi early, Osaka’s stint in 2024 did not go well.

The Japanese player announced her hiatus in early 2023, but the reason was joyous, as she had her daughter, Shai. She went back to the court just a few weeks after she gave birth. Training went well, as per several reports from her camp, and a comeback was announced in the Brisbane International. She returned to the tournament but lost in round 2.

Going into the Australian Open, Osaka was ousted by Caroline Garcia after a tie-breaker in the second set. Abu Dhabi saw similar results as Collins eliminated her. The comeback of the former number 1 is not going as her fans would hope. However, there is a long time left, and she has enough time to recuperate. The coming tournaments will likely set the rhythm for her performance in 2024. Will she fare any better?
