Yes, indeed, she is! Sloane Stephens kicked off 2022 with a bang, marrying the New England Revolution and USMNT forward Jozy Altidore at St. Regis Bal on New Year’s Day.

Stephens began dating the soccer player in 2016. Incidentally, they were childhood friends who reconnected in 2016 and started a relationship. The couple announced their engagement in April 2019 on their Instagram and Twitter accounts with a photo of the two together.  

The professional career of Sloane Stephens

Since they both hail from an athletic background, Stephens and Altidore are well-versed and enthusiastic about each other’s careers.

She rose to prominence after defeating world No. 3 Serena Williams in the 2013 Australian Open semifinals. Sloane Stephens was the 2017 US Open Women’s Singles champion and has won six WTA singles titles since turning professional. She won her first Premier Mandatory title at the Miami Open in 2018.

After Wimbledon in 2018, she reached a career-high ranking of No. 3 in the world. She was a semifinalist in the same tournament aside from her runner-up trophy at the French Open. Sloane Stephens won the WTA Comeback Player of the Year for her outstanding 2017 season, which included victories at the US Open and the WTA Finals.

Who is Jozy Altidore?

Jozy Altidore is a $10 million net worth American soccer player who plays for the US National Team. At the age of 16, Altidore made his professional debut with the New York Red Bulls in 2006 and now he plays for the New England Revolution in Major League Soccer. Since joining the professional ranks at the age of 16, he has made 184 appearances in Major League Soccer, scoring 78 goals and assisting 25 times in 12,238 minutes.

He moved to Villarreal for a fee of $10 million in 2008. Sunderland in the English Premier League signed Altidore during the summer transfer window of 2013. After a disappointing one-and-a-half season with the club, he returned to MLS with Toronto FC and established his status as an MLS legend. Altidore passed Clint Dempsey for the most goals on March 3, 2013. He has represented the United States at various international levels, including the U-17, U-20, and U-23 levels. He made his senior national team debut in 2007 and has over 110 caps to his name, including appearances at the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup in2011, 2015, 2017, and 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cups, and the 2010 and 2014 World Cups.

The couple’s dreamy wedding

Sloane Stephens rang in the new year by marrying longtime love Josmer “Jozy” Altidore in Miami, Florida on New Year’s Day. Sloane Stephens’ wedding gown, a custom Galia Lahav couture, was one of the most talked-about pieces from this year’s bridal looks. The venue was also nicely decorated, and the couple exchanged their rings under palm trees.

When asked about what he was most excited about in this new chapter of his life, Altidore said, “Just being with my best friend every day. What’s better than that?”. Stephens praised her husband’s parenting skills with his son from a previous relationship, saying, “He loves his son so much and gives so selflessly”. She said that it was a key reason which made her fall more in love with him.

But, since it was a covid-wedding, they also said how arranging everything had been quite stressful. This was because, with how frequently the guidelines and protocols were changing, it was very difficult to set any plan in stone. Some of their closest people could not attend the event. But the couple thoughtfully left places in the seating arrangement for them.
