However, there were some who believed that the US government influenced every stance she took back then as they gave her a permit to reside in the nation.

That mentality is still intact in many and Navratilova comes across it now and then. However, there are only a few incidences in which she indulges in an argument. Recently, something of that sort happened and the 18-time Grand Slam champion felt the need to speak.

Navratilova’s response to an accusation regarding citizenship

While sharing her take on Novak Djokovic’s vaccination situation affecting his subsequent participation in the US Open Navratilova stumbled upon a weird piece of analogy.

When she pointed out that the Grand Slam is working in accordance with the government’s guidelines, a tennis fan presented her with a different  argument.

“To keep your US citizenship, you have to side with the US establishment. At least you can be diplomatic and not be mean to Djokovic. This is the point of contention. Nothing else,” the tweet read.

The nine-time Wimbledon champion doesn’t appreciate Djokovic‘s stand on vaccination. She believes that the Serbian star shouldn’t take part in events and put others at risk. Therefore, on the matter of his participation in the US Open, she firmly opposed his stance.
