Iga Swiatek and her 2022 season so far have been unbelievable. Starting from the Qatar Total Open, she has not lost a single match and is on a fairytale run. Not only did she win in Qatar. She then picked up two titles- the Indian Wells Masters and the Miami Open Masters. And becoming only the fourth player in the WTA circuit to win the Sunshine Double. But, the 20-year-old Pole, did not stop there. She won the Stuttgart Open too, making it four consecutive WTA singles titles back to back!

Iga Swiatek on Wimbledon’s decision
Swiatek, in the initial days of the geopolitical crisis, had sympathized with Ukraine; country neighboring her home country of Poland. She has also been wearing a ribbon in Ukrainian colors as a mark of her support. But she did say that Wimbledon’s ban on Russian and Belarusian players was too chaotic, and was throwing the entire tennis ecosystem into chaos.

“But I feel like it would be nice to have all these bodies making the proper decision so that we’re not going to have that kind of chaos… I feel like people are expecting us players to make the decision, but it’s pretty hard for us to make one because we know these people. We know each other. We are spending so much time on tour that it feels like we’re family,” she said.

While Wimbledon has stood behind their decision, the governing bodies of ATP and WTA have criticised the move by the All England Club.

Iga Swiatek’s fairytale run suffered a blow as she resigned from the Mutua Madrid Open owing to a right shoulder injury. As clay is her strong suit, we hope that this injury will not be a major issue for the World No. 1’s French Open bid.
