The best reward that one can get from suffering is experience. Talking about suffering, the 21-year-old British tennis star, Emma Raducanu went through a lot last season. She has missed much of 2023 after having surgeries on both her wrists and an ankle. But now, she’s back in action and has already played 2 matches in 2024. However, there is a slight worry in the minds of her fans amid her new injury rumors.

Emma Raducanu is currently placed at number 299 in the women’s singles ranking. But the 49-year-old Spanish coach, Alex Corretja, believes Raducanu should now forget about rankings and must look forward to including smaller events in her schedule. Corretja has previously coached another British superstar, Andy Murray during 2008-2011. Let’s find out what he said on how Raducanu can rediscover herself.

Emma Raducanu was recently in action after an 8-month-long hiatus at the ASB Classic in Auckland. She had made a winning start to her 2024 campaign by clinching a victory against Romanian tennis player, Elena-Gabriela Ruse at her first match. But her run didn’t last too long as Elina Svitolina showed her the way to exit in their next match. So, Raducanu’s woes still continue.

However, Corretja believes these close matches are exactly what Raducanu needs at the moment irrespective of their outcomes. Here’s what he said to Express Sport about Raducanu, “You’re not going to beat anyone 1 and 1, it doesn’t help to win 6-1 6-1 right now. It is better to suffer. It’s better to struggle in order to come back to your best tennis.”

After pulling out from the charity match against Donna Vekic, Emma Raducanu withdrew from yet another match. She had a 2-hour practice session on Monday, and as per reports she woke up on Tuesday morning a ‘little sore’. So she decided to take a rest rather than play a charity match against Vekic, who came in as a replacement for Naomi Osaka.

She was also scheduled to play against the 16YO Russian Mirra Andreeva at the Kooyong Classic on Thursday. But reports suggest she has also pulled her name out of that clash. Is she yet again injured? Can she make a comeback before 2024 AO? Well, according to sources close to Raducanu’s camp, she had made herself unavailable in these two matches in order to carefully manage her body before the mega event. Making a comeback after such a long time, especially after having gone under the knife, cannot be easy.

Tennis has been my passion since my childhood. My sheer love and enthusiasm for the racket sport has been a major influence in me wanting to build a career in sports journalism. Additionally, being a die-hard Real Madrid fan makes me more connected to my tennis idol-Rafael Nadal, who himself is a huge Los Blancos fan and a contender to become its next President.
