In the past year, the sports biopic drama movie, King Richard touched many hearts with its amazing story about Venus and Serena Williams’ father, Richard Williams. Many fans and critics praised Will Smith’s outstanding performance for his portrayal of Richard Williams in the movie.

23-time Grand Slam champion, Serena Williams also spoke about Smith’s performance. In a recent interview with The Daily Show host, Trevor Noah, Serena made some interesting comments about seeing Will Smith as her father. 

Serena Williams felt weird seeing Will Smith as her father

Without a doubt, Will Smith gave one of the most powerful performances of his career in the movie King Richard. Serena Williams spoke about her experience of seeing Will Smith as her father. At first, she thought it was weird seeing the actor playing her father, Richard Williams. However, speaking to Trevor Noah on The Daily Show, she admitted that she has gotten used to it now.

“You know it was, it definitely was. I’ve gotten so used to it now that, now when I see him, I’m like ‘hey dad’ (laughs). But in the beginning, it was definitely weird because it just was just weird,” Serena Williams said when asked about seeing Will Smith as her dad. 

The former world No.1 also praised the actor’s performance, as she felt it was real. “he did such a great job of just becoming Richard Williams to a point where it was actually like I was looking at my dad or really remembering those moments, when we were together and when we were younger and it’s really amazing… everything that he did in that film,” Serena further said. 

Venus and Serena enjoy the success of the film

Critics and fans praised the film, King Richard, for so many reasons. Whether it was the acting, screenplay, music, or some other aspect, it exceeded all expectations. During the SAG Awards, Will Smith won the award for the best actor in a leading role. Also, the movie received six Oscar nominations and could potentially bag plenty of accolades at the Oscar.

Serena and Venus both expressed their joy over the success of the film. Earlier, both the Williams sisters posted on social media to show their love for the film. At first, Serena could not believe it, as she thought it was ‘Crazy’ and Venus also reacted to Will’s SAG award win on Instagram.
