She and her sister Serena Williams revolutionized the way women’s tennis was played at that point in time. They introduced, with their game a new level of athleticism and power, serving hard and hitting the ball harder. While they have been one of the most successful doubles partners, they also share a healthy rivalry against each other in Singles on the tour.
Venus Williams thinks Serena’s win was unfair
At the Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast, available on Spotify, Venus was asked about how she dealt with playing against her sister. Referring to the Australian Open in 2017 when Serena beat Venus in the final, Venus had a funny dig at her younger sister.
Venus jokingly recalled how she is still lobbying for that match to be declared ‘unfair’ as it was later revealed that Serena was pregnant at the time of the match. Thus, Venus insists that she was technically playing against two people!
“And I would like to say it was unfair. Yes. I’m still trying to get that trophy. After seeing Olympia, like you can tell like it really was two against one, her little body is like the best athletic body I’ve ever seen in my life,” she said about Serena and Alexis Ohanian’s daughter.

Venus says it is special to play against Serena
In the podcast, Venus was also asked what it was playing against her older sister in such high-stake matches.
She replied, “And you just got to realize it is a moment and years from now you want to just know that you gave your best regardless of if it was your sister or not. Because you don’t get those moments all the time. Even as many times as I’ve had that moment, and she’s had that moment, those moments are still special every time so you have to treat it that way no matter who it is. And if you can just see it as a game then. It’s a lot simpler,” he said.
