While it is Danielle Collins’ final year of her tennis career, very few would have thought of her dominating her opponents. The 30-year-old has been in stellar form this year and already won a couple of titles in 2024. They came back-to-back at the Miami Open and the Charleston Open. The American star will look to replicate that form in the clay-court season as the Italian Open looms. Collins has a golden opportunity to dig deep in the tournament, as she received some good news lately.

The former World Number 7 has received a kind draw at the Italian Open, and none of her compatriots will come in her path during the early rounds. Moreover, she received a bye in the opening round and will take on the winner of the match between Diane Parry and Anna Blinkova in the second round.

A stiff challenge for Collins will actually come in the fourth round when she will potentially face Elena Rybakina for a place in the Italian Open quarterfinals. They have had an intriguing rivalry, and most of their matches are closely contested. Rybakina has a slight upper hand, winning 3 of the 5 matches, played against Collins.

As a result, the American star will have her work cut out in the latter rounds of the tournament. Although the form has been on her side, American legend Andy Roddick warned Collins about a potential danger at European tournaments.

While the American swing of the hard-court tournaments is done and dusted, the action has moved to Europe. However, the fans at these tournaments are very vocal, making it difficult for the players, especially the American stars. Recently, Roddick warned Collins of this scenario in what will be her last French Open tournament.

The American legend explained, You can’t be shocked when you’re going to Europe and people whistle when you go to talk to the umpire. It happens a hundred percent of the time.” Furthermore, Roddick also stated that such behavior can get worse at the French Open.
